Operation Safe Driver Week 2022
07/15/2022
We are nearing the end of Operation Safe Driver Week 2022 (July 10-16). The goals of Operation Safe Driver Week are to:
- Alter drivers’ unsafe driving behaviors by having a high-visibility law enforcement presence on our roadways.
- Change bad driving habits long term through interactions with law enforcement.
- Provide commercial motor vehicle driver education and awareness programs to the motor carrier population.
- Reduce the number of crashes on our roadways.
Law enforcement agencies are focusing on both commercial vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers. The area of special emphasis for Operation Safe Driver Week 2022 is speeding.
Law enforcement will also be on the lookout for other dangerous driving behaviors, including distracted driving, following too closely, improper lane change, and drunk or drugged driving.
During Operation Safe Driver Week 2021, law enforcement pulled over 28,148 commercial motor vehicles and 17,910 passenger vehicles and issued 10,486 warnings and 16,863 citations.
Operation Safe Driver is a CVSA program – in partnership with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), state, provincial and local law enforcement, and industry – launched in 2007 to reduce the number of deaths and injuries resulting from crashes involving large trucks, motorcoaches and passenger vehicles.
