Wreaths Across America Day December 19, 2020

wreathsacrossamerica.org

Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, our mission to Remember, Honor and Teach is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 1,600 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.

For three decades, Americans across the nation have gathered in December to "remember our fallen U.S. veterans, honor those who serve, and teach children the value of freedom" through the placing of wreaths on veterans’ graves.

This year, Dec. 19 will mark the 29th National Wreaths Across America Day. With proper social distancing and other health precautions either developed or already in place due to the pandemic, more than an anticipated 1 million remembrance wreaths will be laid on the graves of America's fallen veterans throughout the country and overseas as part of the mass wreath-laying effort.

Safety Tips for Winter Road Conditions

Although the calendar doesn’t say it’s so, it’s been feeling a lot like Winter already! Here are a few ideas to help you and your family make it through safely.

Safety Tips for Winter Road Conditions

  • Map your route:  Know where you are going and be prepared, ahead of time, to exit off the highway when needed. Indecisive driving is a major cause of traffic problems.

  • Avoid extreme weather conditions: Ice, hail and snow make roads difficult to travel. Try to avoid driving through extreme weather conditions, and travel during daylight as much as possible.

  • Remove ice and snow from your vehicle:  Clear your windows and roof of snow to ensure you have maximum visibility and avoid creating a hazard for the vehicle behind you. Don't allow ice and snow to create additional blind spots on your vehicle.

  • Slow Down: With winter weather conditions present, speeding becomes increasingly hazardous. Allow plenty of a space cushion and reduce your speed.

America’s Trucking Industry Answered the Call in 2020, Says ATA President

American Trucking Associations President and CEO Chris Spear recently addressed the federation’s 2020 Management Conference, highlighting the industry’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and detailing ATA’s successful efforts to keep trucks moving throughout the national crisis.

“While others in DC panicked, the ATA led, giving direction and certainty to our members when it mattered most,” Spear said in his annual State of the Industry address, citing ATA’s successful efforts in securing federal “essential” status for carriers and keeping facilities open for drivers—both of which were critical to maintaining the flow of interstate commerce while the county locked down.

“Our combined efforts have helped put America on a path to full recovery,” he said.

Spear said the challenges of 2020 have served to strengthen the ATA Federation, calling it “battle-hardened” as it looks to tackle a number of priority issues in the consequential year ahead. Among them, he said ATA will continue pursuing tort and legal reform, addressing the shortage of drivers and technicians and fighting for long-term funding for our national infrastructure.

“Our efforts this year on infrastructure produced a comprehensive bill in the House of Representatives--movement that paves way for passing comprehensive reform next year, regardless of who voters elect next week,” he said.
