National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is September 13-19, 2020

Nearly every aspect of daily life is made possible because a truck driver delivered the goods and resources people need.

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is an important time for America to pay respect and thank all the professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in undertaking one of our economy's most demanding and important jobs. These 3.5 million professional men and women not only deliver our goods safely, securely, and on time, they also keep our highways safe.

This year's National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is September 13-19, 2020, and takes on a special significance considering the crucial role truck drivers have played during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Americans in all fifty states have taken extraordinary steps to show their appreciation for the important work that professional truck drivers have done as we navigate our way through the coronavirus pandemic. From children passing out lunches, to "I Heart Truck" signs across America's highways, the public has taken notice of the essential role truck drivers play in their lives. President Trump and Secretary of Transportation, Elaine Chao said, "Thank God for truckers."

This week is a way to show appreciation to the 3.5 million professional men and women who not only deliver our goods safely, securely, and on time, but also keep our highways safe.

Next year, NTDAW will be held from September 12-18, 2021.

Women In Trucking Association Accelerate! Conference Goes Virtual

The Women In Trucking Association (WIT) announced today its sixth annual Accelerate! Conference & Expo will transition to a completely virtual format to take place Nov. 12-13, 2020. After monitoring the recent escalation of COVID-19 cases nationwide, as well as in Dallas where the in-person conference was originally scheduled to be held Sept. 23-25, it has been determined that focusing on a comprehensive virtual event is the best path forward for the association and our attendees, said Brian Everett, organizer of the event. “This decision was made in conjunction with soliciting feedback from more than 400 WIT members, sponsors, exhibitors and other key stakeholders,” he said, “which has confirmed that our community is fully supportive of a virtual conference.”

“Diversity in experience, skills and perspective is proven to be critical to the success of any company in transportation, and gender diversity is a critical path to this goal,” said Ellen Voie, WIT president and CEO. “This conference is one way for our industry to share new ideas and best practices that encourage the employment of women, recognize their accomplishments and success stories, and ultimately minimize obstacles faced by women in this industry.”

Final Reminder - ATA Seeks Elite Professional Drivers for America's Road Team

American Trucking Associations is seeking nominations for elite professional drivers to serve on the 2021-2022 America's Road Team.

“For 34 years, the captains of America’s Road Team has represented the very best our industry has to offer,” said ATA President and CEO Chris Spear. “These elite drivers have proudly represented the best ideals and values of our industry, including safety, professionalism and patriotism. These men and women typify the positive impact the trucking industry has on communities across the nation. We are proud to continue this tradition and select the next group of outstanding individuals to become America’s Road Team Captains.”

Founded in 1986, America's Road Team, a group of highly accomplished professional truck drivers with incredible safety records, promotes the trucking industry by educating the general public, media, and elected officials about the industry's strong safety record and importance to the economy.

Every two years, a new group of Captains is selected to join the prestigious ranks of America's Road Team and serve as the industry's foremost ambassadors. America's Road Team Captains become the face of the trucking industry, attending key events alongside elected officials, appearing on national media broadcasts and championing the industry at schools and community events in every state. The professional drivers, all of whom have millions of accident-free miles, take a few days away from their companies each month to meet with the motoring public, students, transportation officials and public policymakers to educate and teach about safe driving practices by performing demonstrations, and explaining the sustainable role that trucking plays in the nation's economy.
